How it works
Five steps to your perfect dog.
Dog matchmaking
First you need to find a dog. You can either have a look at our dogs needing homes or tell us the kind of dog you’d like and we’ll do the matchmaking! We have big dogs, small dogs, puppies and golden oldies, we have dogs in caring fosters and those who have been abandoned or experienced cruelty. Each dog’s profile details information about their age, breed mix, personality and temperament. We will help you find your perfect match.
Tell us about you
Register to adopt by filling out our straightforward online application form. Once we have received this we will be in touch to discuss next steps and reserve your Underdog!
Homecheck and chat
Once you have reserved your perfect dog, you will have a video homecheck. The homecheck lasts around one hour, it’s nothing to worry about, we just want to know that your dog will be a good match for you and your family. It’s also a great opportunity for you to ask lots of questions.
Confirmation
If your homecheck is successful, you will sign an adoption contract that details the terms and conditions of adopting an Underdog. We also ask for proof of address and identity, and an adoption contribution. The adoption contribution covers the cost of transport, health check, vaccines and microchip - we call it an adoption contribution as in many cases we have to subsidise the cost. The reason we subsidise the cost is because dogs travelling to the UK is expensive and we want to help with the burden of that higher cost.
Coming home!
Once we have received your payment and signed contract we can look into the logistics of bringing your dog home to you. Introducing an Underdog to your home will be exciting and rewarding, however, it will take time for your dog to settle into their new life and there may be hiccups along the way. If you do encounter any tricky times, our team will support you, including our team of resident behaviourists.
Important things to note!
Everything your dog has ever known will change; it will take time and patience to help them adjust to a completely unfamiliar environment.
Some of our dogs may still need help with house training and will need to learn to be left at home.
It is important to consider the ongoing cost of adopting a dog; vet bills, training classes and food all add up.
Dogs need a lot of exercise. We recommend at least two walks a day, games like fetch and hide and seek are also a great way for your dog to exert both physical and mental energy.
Adopting a rescue dog can be hugely rewarding - they have a huge amount of love to give and we will be here to support you every step of the way.
