About Asha
Asha and her siblings arrived in the UK on the 15th September after beginning their life in the shelter. They were born after their mother was rescued as a heavily pregnant stray, and although their first few months were spent in a shelter they were surrounded by love and care, a far cry from what would have been the case had they been born on the streets.
We’re gutted to say that after just four weeks in the UK, Asha is now seeking a new home. Her adopters have tried to integrate Asha into their family but unfortunately the commitment of a young puppy alongside two young children has unfortunately been too much to cope with. Asha is a bouncy, energetic and cheeky puppy, typical of a Spaniel/Hound mix, and she wants to be involved in everything. She is unfamiliar with boundaries and has no spatial awareness, which has resulted in her accidentally upsetting the children by running into them or scratching them.
Asha is an extremely lovable dog and is very human oriented, sociable and friendly. If the house is calm, she matches that energy, and she loves the company of her humans. As you’d expect of her breed mix, she is an energetic dog and needs outlets for that energy. She often gets zoomies and is currently in the process of trying to learn that she’s not allowed to jump on the sofa, eat the plants of chew children’s toys, but all of these puppy behaviours are workable. She is just a baby and has lots of learning to do still.
Asha loves food and responds well to positive reinforcement training with treats as the reward. She can be an opportunist, so don’t leave your toast unattended! She will now sit and wait for her dinner and has loads of potential to learn more commands and tricks given some time and focus. She is keen to learn and eager to please.
Although a little shy with strangers (both dogs and people), it doesn’t take her too long to warm up once she knows they’re friendly. Asha has taken nicely to lead walking and has also learned her name. Her recall (on lead) has just started and she’s responding well, and this is only after four weeks in a home so imagine how well she could be doing in a few months!
Ultimately, Asha is considered too much around the young children in the household, and although she does not mean them any harm at all, it’s proving tricky for her family to manage. Asha tends to get very excited around children and that can result in her becoming hyperactive. With adults who are calmer, she is also much calmer. She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle.
Asha would love to join a family home. She could live with other dogs, but has not been tested with cats, and we think she would be better suited to a home with kids aged 8+, who are comfortable around dogs. She needs some continued training and socialisation, as any pup her age would, and because she’s a very intelligent breed mix she needs a lifestyle that keeps both her mind and body active, to avoid her getting bored or destructive. Puppies are hard work, we’ll be the first to tell you that! But with understanding, patience and training, the rewards are worth it.
Asha is currently based in Hampshire and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to find a new family as soon as possible.
