About Avi

Avi is a three year old Shepherd mix with a lovely, expressive face and a very impressive, curly tail that wags the moment he sees someone approaching. He was found wandering through fields in a remote area and brought into the shelter at the end of 2024. Sadly, no one came forward to claim him, and he’s had very little interest since, but we’re hopeful that 2025 will be his year.

Avi has a warm, sociable nature and loves being around people. He loves attention, thrives on interaction, and always greets new people with enthusiasm, as though he’s known them for years. His cheeky, slightly mischievous side makes him all the more endearing, and he’s always happy to get involved in whatever is going on! It could be dinner time, going out for a walk, or leaning in for a cuddle, but whatever it is Avi is just happiest when he’s a part of things.

Avi currently shares his kennel with another male dog and gets along very well with him. He’s sociable and tolerant, but it’s clear that what Avi really loves is 1-1 time. When he has someone’s full attention you can see how much happy he is. His whole expression lights up, and his focus is entirely on the person with him.

Avi is clever and eager to please. He has some basic lead training already and is showing good progress. He would definitely benefit from further training in a home environment, and he responds well to praise and positive reinforcement. He’s adaptable and keen to learn, which will definitely help with continued training.

We feel Avi would suit a home slightly outside the city, ideally with access to a secure garden and regular opportunities for exercise. He’s moderately active and would enjoy a home where he can get out for walks, explore, receive loads of cuddles, and most importantly, be included in family life. He could live happily with another friendly dog or as an only dog, provided he has regular companionship and stimulation.

Avi is a cheerful, affectionate and people focused dog with lots to offer. He’s been overlooked so far, but with the right family, he has every chance of becoming a loyal and much loved companion.
