About Goose
Goose has always been lucky enough to be surrounded by love, security and kindness. Back in 2022, his heavily pregnant mother was found as a stray and brought into the shelter in Cyprus, we were able to find her a foster home to give birth to her babies. They were brought up around other dogs and people from the very start of their lives, and when they were four months old and ready to travel to the UK, the pups set off on their individual ventures.
Unfortunately, after a long time agonising over the decision, Goose’s family have come to terms with the fact that they sadly cannot give him the lifestyle he needs and we’re now seeking a new forever home for him. Goose currently lives in Bath, but is able to travel to a new home anywhere in the country as long as his prospective adopters are able to meet him beforehand.
Goose is a classic hound. He is energetic, curious, goofy, adventurous and very loyal. He is a large dog and therefore strong, so requires someone confident with dogs who will have no issue handling him on the lead. He loves being outdoors and is an avid explorer, and would do well in a semi-rural location. He displays a lot of working dog traits that are difficult to manage in his current environment and is therefore ideally looking for a home with an hound experienced family with a big garden and plenty of time and understanding.
Goose is a very devoted dog and forms strong bonds with his caregivers. He loves being fussed over and is affectionate and snuggly on the sofa, and an extremely good nap buddy. He’s a complete sucker for belly rubs, kisses, being told he’s a good boy, and being tucked under a warm blanket. He’s very people oriented and could thrive in an active, busy family home, or just as well with a single person who would have all the time in the world for him. He’s not the kind of dog that will do well being left home during the day for long periods as he’ll get bored and want to go outside, so does require an outdoorsy adopter who is keen to be out rain or shine with him.
Among his favourite things are roast chicken and cheese on toast, tennis balls, rope toys, squeaky balls and soft toys. In the summer he loves a paddling pool, and he responds well to enrichment toys such as Lickimats and Kongs. True to his breed type, Goose is ruled by his nose and loves nothing more than scenting away in the grass and following interesting smells. He naturally has a prey drive, so his recall is selective and needs further work. He would likely do brilliantly at something like pet gundog training, which we would highly recommend. He is for sure a highly trainable dog given the time and consistency.
Goose has been really sweet towards any children he has met and loves the fuss they give him. He loves to run about with them and gives them licks aplenty! Purely based on his size and energy levels we wouldn’t recommend a home with children under the age of eight years old, but he loves the attention older children can offer him and loves being a part of their fun and games. He’d benefit from an active home where there’s always someone about to keep him entertained/cuddled/in good company. Unfortunately Goose isn’t suitable for a home with cats.
Previously, Goose has gotten on well with other dogs, but in the last few months his behaviour seems to have regressed in that he can be a bit domineering. For the right person, with the right dog experience, it might be possible for him to live with another resident dog but it would have to be the right match. If they were well matched Goose would really enjoy having a companion. He is also very vocal with dogs he meets on the leads and needs space. As you can see in his photos, there are some dogs he gets on really happily with but he would also be more than happy being the only resident dog in the household. He also doesn’t like other dogs sniffing his rear end and will ask for space if they are too persistent.
Goose is neutered, crate trained and house trained, and has the potential to learn so much given the time and dedication. He is a lovable soul with a lot of character, and despite his intelligence he is also equal parts daft. He’s a funny boy and will bring so much joy to the right home.
Goose is currently based in Bath and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to meet his new forever family. For more information please email eve@theunderdog.org.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
