About Maximus

Sweet Maximus was rescued by a man who found him living as a stray, presumably abandoned. He was hanging around in the same area for a while, and when no one turned up to collect him, the man thought he’d take him home for a while to keep him safe. Unfortunately, a former owner never showed up and the man and his family weren’t in a position to adopt a dog, so he was surrendered to the shelter.

Maximus is a medium-large mixed breed and he’s only just turned a year old. He is a beautiful, sweet natured, and gentle soul, who is still coming to terms with all the recent changes in his life. He’s a little apprehensive in new situations and with unfamiliar people, but he is so well behaved and good tempered. He’s a big softie and he’s already making a good first impression on all the volunteers at the shelter, who are, of course, already in love with him.

Although Maximus is a bigger sized dog (he’s around 28kg at the moment), it’s important to remember that he is in fact still very much a baby. He’s only just turned a year old and although he’s absolutely gorgeous he’s not the typical companion dog here in Cyprus, so we don’t know if he’s ever really had a home to call his own. He’s still figuring out new people, learning how to trust, and coming out his shell slowly but surely. He needs a family who can give him a little time, patience and understanding while he finds his feet, but we’re sure it will only be a matter of time before he’s able to properly adjust. He can be a little bit submissive and shy, but doesn’t show signs of fear thankfully.

Maximus is good with other dogs and having them around him at the shelter is helping him to settle in, but we think as long as he’s given time to adapt he could be fine as the only resident dog in the household. He has not been tested with cats, and because he’s a little submissive we would prefer a home with older children (10+) who can give him space if needed.

Maximus would love a home based out of the city, or even semi-rurally if possible, surrounded by lovely places to explore and away from busy roads and lots of noise. He would be happiest with access to a garden and a moderately active lifestyle, and we would like his new home to continue his socialisation to further improve his confidence, and work on some basic training. Maximus has already shown us that when he trusts you, he just melts into your arms. He’s very affectionate and loving, and he’s a wonderful squishy size to give cuddles to!

Maximus is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
