About Merry
Merry and his pal, Pippin, were living outside a workspace in Cyprus when we were contacted by one of the employees there to see if we could help them. Thankfully at the time we had the space to take them in, but this was back in March and unfortunately, neither of them have been adopted yet.
Merry is a Bluetick Coonhound mix and is absolutely beautiful. In true hound fashion, he is always on the go, interested in everything and loves nothing more than following his nose. He is fantastic with people and a complete social butterfly, gravitating towards anyone who will show him an ounce of affection. He’s being very well cared for in the shelter but he’s dying to get out and explore the world. He leans in for the best cuddles, is always ready to distribute as many kisses as people will allow, and will give you a gentle paw for more fuss if you stop the pets too early. Also bonus feature - ears like velvet.
Testament to his lovely personality, everyone who visits the shelter comments on what a lovely dog he is. Over the past few months, his manners have improved considerably, he is able to keep his calm in situations where he previously got very over-excited, and he is absolutely desperate to please. He’s extremely friendly with everyone he meets and has no trouble trusting anyone, even those he met five minutes ago. He desperately wants to belong to someone and be a part of a family.
Merry is good with other dogs but is without a doubt confident enough to be the only resident dog in the household. He’s not tested with cats, and based on his breed we’d be unlikely to recommend a home with small furries anyway, but he could be rehomed with children aged 7+, because he can be bouncy. He would likely be just as lovely with younger children, but his energy levels could be a bit intimidating to smaller kids. He is however always happy to meet new people and is a very friendly, loving and loyal boy - Merry by name, merry by nature!
Merry is a highly intelligent dog, although he does have a tendency to fool you at first with his goofy behaviour, but he would absolutely thrive with training and a very active lifestyle. He would be looking for a home with an energetic, outdoorsy family who are looking for a dog to be on the go with them as an exploring partner and best friend. It would be advisable for him to also have direct access to a secure garden.
Hounds are fantastic companions when presented with a balanced lifestyle. They’re super affectionate and love a cuddle on the sofa or to be tucked up in bed, but also need lots of physical and mental stimulation to keep their minds active. They’re born investigators and observe the world nose first, and Merry would love to get involved in activities such as scent work or man trailing. He would be amazing at them!
Merry is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
