About Scoop
Meet Scoop, a handsome Bretton Spaniel with a reserved nature and a gentle heart. At around two years old, Scoop's journey has been anything but easy. He arrived at the shelter just before the hunting season commenced, and based on his shy temperament, he was probably no good for hunting and was likely abandoned. He is now in search of a forever home where he can be treated with the love and care he deserves.
Scoop is a gentle boy who takes a little time to trust new people. Though his initial apprehension might make him seem distant, underneath is a truly sweet boy who really wants to make friends with humans but is still learning how. Since his arrival his confidence has really improved and he is much more brave than he was just a few weeks ago!
He currently shares his kennel with a number of other dogs, males and females of varying ages and sizes, but as he has a very submissive nature, he often gets bullied and now tends to linger at the back of the kennel on his own. However, Scoop shines in the company of other similar natured dogs with a calm, friendly disposition, and would thrive with a resident dog to help him build confidence and adjust to home life. Recently, a new, calm female has arrived and Scoop is desperately trying to make friends with her!
Patience is key with Scoop. He needs an understanding adopter who can give him a little time to adjust. He has so much potential, but it’s difficult for him to flourish in his current setting because the shelter is just so busy and overwhelming. Once he’s had time to settle, Scoop will be ready for a moderately active lifestyle, enjoying walks, playtime and adventures as he grows more confident. A home with a garden, based outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, would suit him best. He would feel most comfortable in a semi-rural environment where he can take things steady. He is going to be amazing as a companion once he’s properly slotted into his new home as he has such a devoted nature and once he’s formed a bond with you, he is the most loyal, kind soul.
Scoop is keen to learn and eager to please. He is very food motivated, and can walk very nicely on the lead with a little encouragement! Treats will serve as the perfect reward for reinforcing new, positive behaviours, and it’s clear how smart Scoop really is when he gets a little 1-2-1 time with someone.
Scoop has not been tested with cats, and he would do best in a household with children aged 10 or older, as young kids might overwhelm him. While some experience with spaniels would be beneficial for understanding his unique needs, it is not a requirement.
If you have the love, patience, and gentle approach that Scoop needs, we have no doubt that he will repay you with loyalty, sweetness, and the joy of watching him blossom into a loving companion.
Scoop is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
