About Scoop

Meet Scoop, a handsome Bretton Spaniel with a gentle heart. At around two years old, Scoop's journey has been anything but easy. He arrived at the shelter just before the hunting season commenced, and based on his shy temperament when he first arrived, he was probably no good for hunting and was likely abandoned. He is now in search of a forever home where he can be treated with the love and care he deserves. After months of being overlooked, we made the decision to bring Scoop to the UK to a foster home, in order to give him a better chance of finding his new beginning.

Scoop is a sweet boy who takes a little time to trust new people, but his confidence has grown so much since he arrived in the shelter and the personality that was originally tucked away at that start is now on display for all to see! He is the definition of a lover and not a fighter, and he would desperately try to make friends with everyone in the shelter. He shies away from any conflict and is a truly great mixer when it comes to living alongside lots of other dogs.

Scoop has had both male and female kennel mates throughout the months of varying ages and sizes, but as he has a more submissive nature he was initially the target of bullying. After a little swap to work out which dynamic Scoop would fare best in, he’s found some friends and is now much happier. Scoop shines in the company of other similar natured dogs with a calm, friendly disposition, and would thrive with a resident dog to help him build confidence and adjust to home life. He does however adore people though too, so would be fine to live alone as long as he had plenty of attention and company.

We expect to see a little regression in Scoop’s progress when he moves into a new home, but we’re confident that it won’t take long for him to find his feet. Once he recognises you’ll treat him with kindness, Scoop will be your friend for life. He needs a little understanding as he adjusts, but he genuinely has so much potential and we can’t wait to see him blossom.

Scoop is looking for a moderately active lifestyle, enjoying walks, playtime and adventures. A home with a garden, based outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, would suit him best. He would feel most comfortable in a semi-rural environment where he can take things steady. He is going to be amazing as a companion once he’s properly slotted into his new home as he has such a devoted nature and once he’s formed a bond with you, he is the most loyal, kind soul.

Scoop is keen to learn and eager to please. He is very food motivated, and can walk very nicely on the lead! Treats will serve as the perfect reward for reinforcing new, positive behaviours, and it’s clear how smart Scoop really is when he gets a little 1-2-1 time with someone.

Scoop has not been tested with cats, and he would do best in a household with children aged 10 or older, as young kids might overwhelm him. While some experience with spaniels would be beneficial for understanding his unique needs, it is not a requirement. If you have the love, patience, and gentle approach that Scoop needs, we have no doubt that he will repay you with loyalty, sweetness, and the joy of watching him blossom into a loving companion.

Scoop is currently based in West Yorkshire and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to meet his new family.
