Bob’s story
Bob has been with us nearly a year now, and we can’t imagine life without him! He arrived last September from Cyprus. He was instantly friendly and loving, and very quickly became part of the family. The Underdog team couldn’t have been more helpful, informative, thorough and professional from start to finish.
I fell in love with Bob (though he was originally named Pete) from a photo that my mother sent me. She had recently rescued a dog, and follows several charities. We already had three dogs, and I wasn’t particularly looking for a fourth, but Bob played on my mind, and I knew that we could offer him a wonderful home.
We duly emailed an enquiry, and shortly after beginning the process Holly followed up with a Zoom call to meet us and talk through the process of homing a rescue dog. She was friendly, thorough and asked us all the right questions, while making sure that we were the right match for Bob, and he for us.
I grew up with several rescue dogs, and know that it can be a long process to re-habilitate and create a trusting relationship with a dog with a difficult or abusive past. Bob’s description was really helpful, and I did feel that we had a good idea of the lovely boy who would arrive, ahead of meeting him.
Any rescue is a bit of an unknown until you get them home and begin the work of building a relationship. Bob would run in the early days, as if he didn’t know where he was going, or when to stop. He was also liable to chase anything that moved, and was nervous of cars and men! We live in the country next door to a sheep farm, so it was imperative that Bob learnt to be trustworthy around sheep and wouldn’t run away. With a lot of patience, love and time, he is the most perfect chap. He’s so much calmer, walks for miles off the lead, doesn’t look at sheep and is so loving and rewarding.
We very sadly lost one of our dogs unexpectedly just a few weeks after Bobby arrived, and the in the Spring, our elderly spaniel too. Bob has been such a joy and has become our daschund’s best friend.
As a family we all adore Bob, and to have offered him a home after whatever he’d been through, is so rewarding. He’s paid us back a million times over with all his Bobby wonderfulness!
Thank you to The Underdog team, for all the incredible work you do.
