Bongo’s story

Bongo was listed on Underdog International as the friendliest dog you will ever meet and they were not wrong! High energy, intelligent and in need of doggy pals, we knew he was the boy for us. As I work at a Doggy Day Care, we hoped we could give him a life he would love spending most days playing with friends in open fields.

We brought him home at the end of January and almost three months on we cannot imagine our home without him. Even my Dad, who would never let me have a dog when I was younger, now refers to him as one of his grandchildren!

He now has a best friend, Rafa the pointer, at my work and loves bounding through the fields with him rain or shine, ready for a long snooze when he gets home. Bongos favourite thing is to chase birds on our walks. This makes us slightly nervous to fully let him off lead...especially has he tends to have selective hearing when we try to recall him! However, we are committed to his training and fingers crossed he will soon be able to sprint after those pigeons!

At home he loves to look out the window at people walking by and running up and down the stairs with his favourite toy Mr. Pig. At first, by choice, he slept downstairs in his bed but a few months on he is now at the end of our bed. When our alarm goes off in the morning we find him standing on top of us squeaking and wiggling in excitement for the day to begin!

A super clever boy, Bongo has already mastered paw, beg, bow, crawl, play dead and roll over. He can even close cupboard doors with his paw on command and do the conga!

Rescuing Bongo was the best thing we ever did and we cannot thank Underdog International enough for facilitating and supporting us throughout this wonderful process.
