Crumpet
Crumpet
My name is: Crumpet (aka Crump, Crumpy, Grumps, Dumper, The Large Lady, The Ham Princess)
I came from: Greece
Now I live in: London
Personal Mantra: ~*no thoughts, just vibes*~
My favourite things are: Cleaning the inside of my cat brother’s ears, all crispy foods, peeing in the water when other dogs are playing in it, biting my friend’s bums, kicking mum out of the bed, barging past people sat on the sofa so they have to move from their comfy spot, rolling things under the sofa so I can cry about it, rides on the bus and looming over people when they’re asleep just to check they are still sleeping and not just ignoring me. Special shout out to all the people in the park who give me biscuits when I show off my skills (BOTH paws).
Crumpet’s story
We moved in together just a few weeks before the pandemic hit but always knew the home that we made together would have a dog in it at some point. A couple of months later, life as we knew it changed completely - something which extended to our jobs. I saw Eve posted on Instagram at the end of summer needing help transporting a puppy across London so decided we could be of help. We transported a very little, very bouncy Piper to her foster home and after we sat back in the puppy-less car… we knew we were broody for our own little babe.
We sent a general application to Eve and asked for a dog that would fit into our family including cats and babies well. A couple of weeks later, Eve texted about a puppy, already in the UK, that had been found side of the road in Greece with her siblings and sent over some pictures. We were in the pub and I started getting teary so I would imagine the people around us thought we were breaking up, but we weren’t – we were just looking at pictures of a little baked bean that might come to be part of our family. A few days later, we met Crumpet with her foster to just see how she was and ask questions about her home behaviours. She was very aloof, more interested in sniffing and really laid back for a 5-month-old. On the train home we both acted as if it wasn’t the elephant in the room and was a total non-topic until I said “we’re obviously going to apply for her, aren’t we?” and texted Eve whilst we were still on the train. The application, referencing and collection stages were a breeze. Eve, Daniela and Crumpet’s foster mum were excellent from answering our questions to giving reassurance and advice every step of the way.
The aloof, darling puppy facade we met that Thursday morning was soon shattered when on the drive home she managed to fart up the car so badly we had to roll the windows down, then when we got back to the house immediately peeing on the sofa over the excitement of realising there was a cat. Since the day we got her home, Crumpet has been permanently stuck in chaos mode. The first few days of having her at home coincided with a busy period at work, overwhelming with a new puppy in the house and trying to navigate two animals who don’t speak to the same language, but none of those struggles seemed so bad when a little freckle-bellied freak laid only a few feet away from us, upside down, with her tongue out. From early days we could see her tongue was a little bit too big for her mouth but it’s become her signature look to have a little bit of her tongue blepping out the front – thus The Ham Princess was born!
We’ve been blessed with a big personality in Crumpet, but an even bigger sweetheart. She’s loving to us and those close to us, she is besotted with her cat brother (she even gifts him chews when she’s aware he’s not feeling himself), she’s gentle with children, she LOVES other dogs and is generally such a happy-go-lucky soul. There have been bumps along the way, as expected with a rescue and a young dog, but we’ve worked on her training consistently in a positive and patient way to ensure that she is the best version of herself living in a city, with help from Underdog and her walker, Mel.
She’s become a bit of a socialite around our local park with other dog owners due to her personality, cheeky ways, her daft smiley face and vacant-looking expression. We’ve heard from various dog owners that Crumpet is their ‘park favourite’ so being a rascal does pay off! Alongside being asked on the reg if she is ‘called Trumpet’ or ‘is actually a beagle’ – we can confirm neither of these are correct. She loves her routine and definitely thrives on having structure in her days which means we can manage her energy. As I write this, she’s currently laid on our balcony with her cat brother enjoy the warmth and breeze, with that smiley face on show.
To anybody considering adding the responsibility of a dog into their family, I urge you to apply through Underdog International. We were placed perfectly and our family is complete with this little nutcase. Eve and Daniela were extremely helpful and gave their time and support liberally. Lali and Zara who helped with a large part of getting this girl to us, thank you so much for everything.
