Finn’s story

Having grown up with a veritable pack of dogs, my sister and I had been desperately wanting a dog of our own. We knew we wanted to adopt a rescue rather than go through a breeder as there are so many dogs out there in need of loving homes. I got in touch with the wonderful Eve and explained our life situation and what we were looking for in a dog. After much back and forth, we spotted Finn (previously Artie) on Underdog’s ‘Adopt’ page and immediately fell in love with his smiley face and huge ears.

I remember picking up him from Reading service station — all the dogs looked a bit scared from their long travel, but as soon as Finny was placed in my arms he just relaxed and started wagging his tail. Maybe he knew he was home, maybe he was just pleased to be out of the van, but he was a sweetheart from the start. We spent the first few days figuring each other out and attempting a few gentle walks and played around with a ball. We were very fortunate in that he arrived pretty much housetrained with no major traumas in his life, so he settled fairly quickly.

Now, nearly a year and a half after we got him, we are even more in love with him than ever. While he has always been lovely, we joked that he was very cat-like and only enjoyed lots of affection occasionally and on his own terms (which we always respected). Now he is the sweetest, cuddliest dog you can possibly imagine, and there is nowhere he is happier than curled up to his humans on the sofa. He has drastically changed our lives, but it is without doubt for the better. He has taught us to love more, laugh harder, and generally live life to the fullest with his enthusiasm and excitement. When times have been hard, he has got us out of bed every day with a smile on our faces to match his own.

Every day we are so grateful to Eve and Underdog for bringing him into our lives. We cannot wait to see how he continues to grow and change with love and we have no doubt that we have many adventures yet to come together! Who knows, maybe it’ll be with another Underdog too...
