George’s story
I lost my American bulldog, Max, in November 2019 and I hated not having a dog in my home or my life. I am an avid believer in rescue, all my pets have been, but on contacting local rescues I was told 'no' on many occasions so I gave up feeling very angry and frustrated.
My friend Sunci sent me the link to the Underdog International website and I really liked their ethos so completed the application form. The next day Eve contacted me saying that she had the perfect dog for me and boy was she so right!!
I took one look at those beautiful orange eyes and knew I had to have him. George is a boxer/staffie cross but I think there’s mastiff in the mix too. We think he was a street dog; he is very nervous and always looking for an escape route. He not too keen on men and takes a while to trust. He was saved from death twice as the shelters could see what a kind, loving soul he was and luckily for me, fate intervened. He was driven to my doorstep as he was too nervous to fly.
When he arrived he just cowered in the corner. I ignored him and let him find his feet as he may have never lived in a house before. There were a couple of 'wee' accidents but no chewing or anything. The cat wasn't a problem either. He settled in exactly the same sofa spot as Max did and if I didn't know better, I think he was Max reincarnated as they are so alike.
George's best friend is a Staffie called Konan. They meet everyday in the park and Konan has taught George to play, how to go in the sea and learn what a ball is!! They are a mischievous pair but everyone knows and loves them. When George plays he looks like a prancing horse and is the comical element to the dog park.
He has settled in so well. He is still nervous but now walks with his tail held high and not between his legs. He has filled out and is very muscular. He eats like a horse and loves a chew treat after his walks.
I cannot describe the love I have for him and how well he has fitted in to my home. I thank you Eve for finding Georgeous Porgeous for me and filling my home with slobber and dog hair once again.
