Goose’s story
What’s better than one dog you ask?
Well, the obvious answer is two.
And it really was that evident when I first caught a glimpse of Goose (was Nuno) on Eve’s page.
A wonky, slightly lopsided boy who had been waiting for his chance for years. It was a gut reaction, that I just had to at least find out more about him, because if I missed my chance at offering him a forever home, I would’ve regretted it forever.
Goose doesn’t have an easy background, but it’s one that isn’t that uncommon for Cyprus strays: abandoned, and free-roaming, he got hit by a car as a puppy. The accident left him with a broken leg, brain damage, and a slightly uncoordinated nature that makes him that much more loveable.
He was a literal underdog, picked on by other dogs in the shelter. This made him naturally apprehensive and nervous when it came to adjusting to his new life in London, and sharing toys, treats and peanut butter with his new sister Kiwi. Since his arrival in mid-July, it’s been truly amazing watching him learn and blossom into a confident, happy and playful pup.
Kiwi was my first Cyprus rescue, but she had arrived in the U.K. as a puppy, and I really wanted to give a slightly older dog who had been overlooked a chance.
Adopting a young dog with special needs has in many ways been a lot easier than I thought it would be - we’ve learned to manage everyday life so that Goose is as comfortable and stress-free as possible, and most of the time he’s either playing constantly with Kiwi or curled up and napping on someone’s feet.
There’s been ups and downs, but I have been truly amazed at how resilient and adaptable Goose has been since his arrival. I couldn’t recommend this experience highly enough, and Underdog are true wonder workers when it comes to finding all these pups their forever homes!
