Klaus’ story

It has been over a year now since adopting Klaus, and we can’t imagine a life without him!

We were recommended to look at Underdog International and as soon as we saw all the amazing work they do, we knew they were the charity we would like to adopt from. Opening up Klaus’ profile we instantly fell in love. Those big floppy ears, happy smile and gigantic paws! When we read his profile we knew he was the guy for us.

The adoption process was really smooth, and we actually ended up having Klaus flown over a lot sooner than we thought! When we picked him up he understandably felt anxious & confused, but the moment we got him in the car, it was like he knew he was in safe space as a big smile appeared for the whole journey home.

Once we arrived at home he settled in so quickly. The stairs were an issue for awhile, but some determination and bravery meant after a few hours of trying he conquered them! Klaus wasn’t cat tested like most rescues, but we had a cat Bam Bam, so them meeting was a little nerve wrecking. However after a slow introduction, and some inquisttive sniffing they settled around each other after just a few days. If you do have a cat, I wouldn’t be put off by any dogs not being cat tested. As long as you are willing to put in the work if necessary, most times it seems it work out!

We have had Klaus for over a year now, and I can say with no favouritism (maybe a little!) that he has been the most perfect pooch ever. We were very lucky that Klaus needed very little training for anything, was off the lead pretty quickly and got along with other animals and humans really well! He really is a total dream!

Myself and my partner are a big lover of the outdoors, so when we took Klaus on his first countryside getaway it was incredible to see how happy he was being in nature. He’s been the best travel companion over the last year, and will continue to be brought on many family holidays in the future!
