Lola’s story
I decided to adopt Lola in the summer of 2021 and it was the best decision I have ever made.
I am a massive believer in rescuing dogs and buying a puppy has never an option for me. I have a bulldog, Morrison, who is also an older boy who is too old for a puppy to be jumping around him. I came across Underdog International on Instagram and looked through all their dogs they had needing homes on their website. It was so sad reading some of their stories but the one who stood out the most for was Lola.
Lola had the worst start in life. She had been found very malnourished, her legs were broken and had healed incorrectly, she had a hernia so big her organs had fallen into it! Luckily, she was found by lovely rescuers in Cyprus who managed to get her back on track.
I looked at what kind of home was needed for Lola and I felt as though me and Morrison were a perfect match. I decided to fill in application form for her and the next again morning the lovely Eve got right back to me offering me to adopt Lola. I was absolutely thrilled. I had to do a home check over WhatsApp which was very straight forward and you also got information on how to help rescue dogs settle in. I made sure I was prepared for Lola’s arrival and the next week I got an email to say Lola was able to fly over within the next couple of weeks. Eve kept me up to date on timings and where to collect Lola. It was honestly such a straight forward process!
Lola settled in very quickly however she did have a few episodes of snapping at Morrison for certain things. The first couple of days were the most difficult, as sweet as she was to me, there was part of me feeling so sorry for Morrison as she was quite snippy with him. I feel as though it is so important to realise that the dogs we rescue have often had a terrible life. They are not going to be the perfect dog overnight and they need time and patience which is exactly what we did with Lola. Fast forward a month, Lola and Morrison were getting along absolutely fine. She is now never snippy with him (unless he stands on her tail!!) and they are the best doggie companions!
Lola, in herself, is honestly the most sweetest dog I have ever met. She is so loving and gives you so many kisses when she looks at you. She is an amazing girl who loves going out for her walks and sniffing absolutely everything!! She gets so excited when she sees her harness come out and will often give me an excited howl. She will paw at you if she wants attention or will paw at the door when she needs to go outside which has rubbed off onto Morrison!
I feel so lucky that I got chosen to be the one to adopt Lola. This has honestly been the most rewarding experience of my life.
