Magnus’s story
Last March, we contacted the wonderful Eve at Underdog International to see if we could be chosen to adopt one of her amazing rescues.
On 4th July last year, a trembling, sad-eyed Magnus jumped down from a van in a car park to start his new life with us. After a flight to Cologne and an overnight road trip through The Channel Tunnel the poor little chap was exhausted and confused. Little did we know how he would change our lives. The early days were hard as he settled into a new environment with us and our 3 rescue cats. His fall back when he was stressed was to lay and bite/hold his flank while flexing his paws. Stef was amazing in supporting those first few weeks, and soon we started to see the lively, cheeky boy he would become.
One of our main concerns was integration with our rescue cats, but Underdog provided brilliant support and advice with this, and through patience and treats they now tolerate each other (and may even be friends!).
Training a rescue dog is challenging, but so so rewarding. Seeing him learn his basic commands and adjust to family life was wonderful to see. And of course, we had loads to learn as well. Every dog is different and spending time getting to know him was a privilege. Underdog were excellent at assessing personality and matching us to Magnus.
Today, we are still training and still learning, but wow do we love him, and he us. He is a joy. Our proudest moment (and his!) was getting a gold medal for winning his class competition at dog training school!
Adopting Magnus was one of the best decisions we have ever made, and if you have the time, stability and love to give, there are Underdogs out there waiting for their forever home. Thank you Underdog.
