Pip’s story
Pip is, quite simply, the best dog in the world! From the moment I saw her picture on the Underdog website, it was love at first sight, and I was over the moon when the Underdog team decided our home was the right match for her. My two children and I had been looking for an older rescue dog in the UK but, after a friend recommended Underdog International, we saw Pip – a puppy from Romania – and we are so glad we did!
After we submitted the initial adoption application, Eve demonstrated the patience of a saint in dealing with my very frequent requests for updates (thank you again, Eve!). I don’t think I truly appreciated then the amount of time, care, skill and expertise that the team puts into finding each dog the right home. I certainly do now though - from the get-go Pip just fitted right in and I don’t think there could be a better match for us.
Despite a rough start in life as a stray, Pip is trusting and gentle. She is whip-smart and loves learning new tricks; and she loves the woods and the beach just as much as crashing out somewhere comfy (preferably on someone comfy!) when she gets home. Despite also not having been in a house before, she was house-trained within a few days and learned recall very quickly too.
It hasn’t all be plain sailing, of course, but Pip has been so patient with us throughout. The biggest issue has been helping her feel comfortable on-lead when she sees other dogs, as she can get frustrated when she can’t rush over immediately and play. She’s taught us that consistency, patience, love and celebrating every success are key, whether you’ve got two legs or four. Getting to know and understand each other has been a learning curve, but the advice and support we have had from the Underdog team has been terrific, every step of the way.
The fun and joy Pip brings to our house is indescribable. She is such good company and I love seeing the bond she has with the kids. Having her as part of our family is such a privilege. We cannot thank the Underdog International team and the Dog Rose shelter in Romania enough.
