Tasha’s story
It was late 2021 when I found myself scrolling through the Underdog website (again). For a while, we were in two minds about whether a second rescue dog was a good idea, because of how settled our first dog, Freddie, was… But then we came across this little face, with the description that read, “she is as good as gold…”
Fast forward a few months later and we were driving down to Kent to collect little Tasha, to come join Freddie in her forever home. Tasha was a street dog (Freddie had been at a home and dropped off at the shelter before she came to us), so we had a lot of reading to do; some refreshing our memory, but more to do with welcoming a dog who had been on the street and introducing a second dog. We were SO pumped, but also a bit nervous; we really wanted this to work well and help keep the harmony we had with Freddie.
We introduced Freddie and Tasha in a neutral setting outside, and, as recommended, tried our best to keep them separated for a few days. But the bond was too strong! Both Freddie and Tasha really wanted to meet and so we slowly and cautiously let them get to know each other. Within a few days, it was clear that Tasha was simply head over heels in love with Freddie. And within a few weeks, Freddie had also found a new playmate and best friend, showing all kinds of joyful behaviours we’d never seen before. It was a success!
That said, introducing Tasha was not entirely without difficulty; there was some resource guarding on day one (as was to be expected), Tasha had no idea she was meant to do her wees outside on walks, and she was entirely new to walking on a lead. She was also funny about food for the first few months, which was new to us (as Freddie scoffs down everything).
Tasha is a wonderfully feisty, affectionate and adorable little pup, and we are still enjoying seeing her come out of her shell every day. We love Freddie so much, we wondered if we could ever love Tasha that way too. We can confirm it’s possible - and we thank Underdog so much for giving us our second wonderful rescue!
