About Anya

Anya arrived in the council pound after being found as a stray on the streets of Cyprus when she was just a baby. She was a terrified puppy of around five months old, and heartbreakingly, she has now spent the vast majority of her life behind bars.

Anya has been in the pound for roughly eighteen months and known almost nothing aside from the most basic care due to limited resources and volunteers. To our knowledge, she has never been inside a proper home before, so her forever family need to be prepared to be patient, kind and committed to help her adjust to a new, strong lifestyle that will be very unfamiliar to her to begin with.

Anya is a Malinois mix with the most outstanding ear game. She is a super happy, loving and friendly girl whose confidence has sky-rocketed despite her poor living conditions. Her tail wags a mile a minute when she’s surrounded by people showing her an ounce of kindness, and she is also fantastic with other dogs. Being a Mali mix, Anya is an energetic dog and will require a family who enjoy an active lifestyle and want an intelligent dog to train. She is very keen to please so given some time we think she will respond to training exceptionally well.

Anya loves going out for walks and although she’s a bit strong on the lead, you can’t really blame her considering she barely gets out of her kennel. Council pounds offer the bare minimum, so you will be starting from scratch with her training. She is desperately sweet with humans though, and we feel she will find it really easy to form strong, trusting bonds with her new family.

Due to their high energy, we wouldn’t recommend Malinois types to first time dog owners, and would prefer someone with previous energetic dog experience as Anya’s new home. Anya also needs to live in a home with a garden, and with children aged 10+ due to her bouncy nature. She means no harm, but she does jump up and this might be overwhelming for younger kids. She truly has a heart of gold though and after her abysmal start in life, we would love to see her finally get the opportunity to blossom in a home where she is surrounded by love and security.

Anya gets on really well with other dogs when she’s outside of her kennel on walks and in the yard playing, and we think she’d respond well to having a friend to live alongside. That said, she is definitely confident enough to be the only resident dog. If she lives with another pup, they would need to be similarly energetic, as she might be a bit too much for an old timer.

Anya is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
