About Dolly

Dolly was found as a stray and brought into the shelter by the dog warden. Based on how stressed Dolly has been since arriving, we think she’s probably come from a home environment and has absolutely no idea why her world has been turned upside down.

Dolly is around two years old and is a Labrador mix. She’s a medium sized girl and she’s full of energy and enthusiasm, but sadly a lot of her hyperactivity is also caused by the stress of being in the shelter. We’re trying so hard to get Dolly to calm down and feel secure, but ultimately it’s really hard in a shelter environment where there are so many dogs, it’s so noisy, and it’s difficult to deliver 1-2-1 focus to the dogs that need it the most.

One thing that’s clear is that Dolly loves people. She is friendly, excitable and loving towards those she meets, and given some time to calm down she is very cuddly and sweet. She needs a patient, understanding family who can give her the time she needs to decompress and relax before working on some initial training to help improve her manners. She will only be able to learn when she is in a more relaxed state and the shelter just can’t offer her that.

Dolly is very good with other dogs and currently shares her kennel with another five dogs of varying shapes and sizes. She gets on with males and females, but as she is very active and bouncy she can be a bit much for some dogs who are more calm and reserved. She means no harm, she’s just having a hard time right now. She could definitely share her forever home with another resident dog, but would be happy being the centre of attention too.

Based on Dolly’s reaction to being in a shelter we anticipate she might struggle with some separation anxiety in a new home and this is something that her family will need to be prepared for due to her abandonment. She can also be very mouthy which is another reaction to stress, and therefore isn’t suitable for a home with young children right now. Some people might read this and think Dolly sounds like a nightmare, but in reality, she’s just a dog who really needs a chance, lots of reassurance, and to know that she is safe. Some dogs find the shelter more stressful than others and unfortunately Dolly is one of the dogs that’s struggling.

Dolly is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
