About Kahlua
Kahlua arrived in the shelter as a lone puppy, without any siblings or mother with her. She was very confused when she first arrived and took a few days to acclimate to her new surroundings. Once she’d made friends with some of the other resident puppies, her confidence really improved and she became far happier. She was excited to meet new visitors and always keen for a cuddle! We were impressed by how much progress she had made so we decided to bring Kahlua to the UK as a foster pup to give her a better chance of being adopted.
Unfortunately, her foster family withdrew their offer just days before her flight and we had to scramble to find alternative care for her. And then sadly her new foster had to fly to the US unexpectedly due to family circumstances, so her first few days in the UK were a bit of a whirlwind. However, now safely settling in her newest new (!) foster home in London, she’s starting to find her feet and is beginning to show her lovely character.
Kahlua is now around six months old and is expected, based on her current size, temperament and colourings, to likely be a Shepherd/Hound mix. She has a beautiful face, kind eyes and cheeky, expressive ears that she will eventually grow into, and we may be biased but we think she’s a bit of a stunner. In Cyprus, Kahlua shared her kennel with two hyperactive young pups who bounced all over her, and she was very gentle and patient with them. Now, she’s sharing her foster home with two settled resident dogs who are helping to show her the ropes.
Kahlua has navigated a lot of change in a short space of time, so we’re taking things slowly now and allowing her to adjust at her pace. She is however a very adaptable, observant and intelligent dog, and we don’t think it will be long before she’s acting like she’s always been here! She is a very people oriented dog and loves having a snuggle on the sofa, and she’s also been very excited to discover the wonder of dog toys for the first time in her short life!
At the moment the outside world is something that Kahlua is still adjusting to, and she will need a bit of time before she’s totally comfortable running around in the park or going to day-care, but she’s showing signs of being a very sociable pup. London has lots of loud, strange, unfamiliar noises, sights and smells that she is still getting used to, but she is making really positive progress in such a short space of time.
Kahlua would be a lovely addition to a family home, a young couple, or an individual looking for an active, intelligent and trainable pup to raise. She is smart and needs plenty of mental enrichment as well as physical exercise, and it would be a missed opportunity to not explore training with her, as she loves to learn and picks things up really fast. She’s also very keen to please. Kahlua is good with other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. We would prefer she is homed with slightly older children (8+), due to her expected adult size and energy levels, but would consider younger children if they have experience living with dogs.
Kahlua is currently based in London (SW16) and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to meet her new family anytime!
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
