About Kyra

Kyra was rescued from a public shelter in Bosnia, where the living standards are terrible. The conditions are very bad and the dogs are locked in small, dirty kennels, without any sunlight, and are fed once a day when a shelter worker comes in. They are offered little interaction and many dogs never leave. Kyra was one of the lucky ones. She was pulled from the shelter by our partners in Bosnia and taken to a private kennels where she is now in a much nicer environment and waiting to find her forever home.

Kyra is a smaller sized dog, weighing around 14kg. She’s 18 months old and is a well behaved, fun loving and sociable little girl with an adorable personality. She absolutely loves people and will always gravitate towards the person who’s the most likely to give her a cuddle! Once she’s getting a fuss, she’ll glue herself to you. Because she has such short legs she will often stand upright on her back legs to ensure she’s noticed, or whilst being stroked to make sure she’s got the optimum angle for the best pets.

Kyra is adaptable around people. If you’re just chilling out, she wants to chill out with you and is happy just being present, but if you’re keen to go for a walk, Kyra is keen to go too! She’s just happy to be involved. Although she’s only little she could still keep up with a moderately active pace of life and she loves going out for a walk. She is very trusting with people and shows her gratitude when fussed over by giving everyone lots of kisses and snaking around their legs. She is so friendly once she’s bonded with you and is very affectionate.

Kyra is a quietly confident dog. She gets on with all the other kennel pups but she wouldn’t struggle in a home where she was the only resident dog. She would enjoy being someone’s number one girl if there were no other dogs in the household. At the moment she shares a kennel with ten other dogs and they all get on without any issues, sleeping together, sharing food and giving each other space as and when needed.

Kyra has been around lots of children who visit the kennels and is also used to being walked by them. She is easy to manage on the lead and she knows when she needs to be a bit more gentle. She welcomes being cuddled and stroked by the children and doesn’t seem nervous in their company at all. As far as she’s concerned they’re lots of fun and we think she would be fine in a home with children, as long as she was given space and respect when needed, as all dogs require. Kyra has also been exposed to cats in a controlled setting and wasn’t really interested in them. In a home with dog-savvy, confident cats, we think she would learn to coexist with them.

Kyra’s ideal home would be with a family who were home frequently and wouldn’t leave her for extended periods of time, as she is total socialite and is happiest in the company of people. She could live outside of the city, but would benefit from access to a secure garden, even if it’s only small, it will help her to adapt to life as a companion. It’s unlikely that Kyra has ever had a proper home before so there will be a lot for her to adjust to, but we think she’s going to be an amazing little friend.

Kyra is currently based in Bosnia and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
