About Mia

Mia was brought into the shelter over the summer holidays after she was found roaming as a stray. At only around ten months old, Mia is still very much a pup and adjusting to the shelter has been a big change for her that she’s adapted to impressively.

Mia is now sharing her kennel space with a group of dogs, all of which have varying personalities and temperaments, and she’s proving to be very capable of mixing with a range of different characters. She is a young, playful and intelligent girl, and she’s worked out which dogs don’t want to be bothered and which are fun to hang out with. She reads canine body language well and won’t pester another dog if she senses they need space or don’t want to engage, which is a great quality.

Mia is definitely a little hound mix, likely with some Beagle in her DNA, but she’s a little taller and not as stocky as the typical Beagle, and unlikely to get very much bigger than she is already. She has the kindest, most gentle face, and she always comes running to the gate to greet new people when they arrive. She loves any opportunity to be fussed over and is very affectionate and loving, even with people she’s not spent much time with. You can tell she loves being around humans and would make a very loyal little companion.

Typical of hound types, Mia would love a home where she has plenty of opportunity to explore the world nose first. She loves to sniff on her walks and would benefit from a home that understands the importance of scenting for certain breeds. She would therefore prefer a home based a bit outside of the city where she can explore more green spaces. A very urban location would be a bit much for her.

Mia’s ideal home would be with a family who had an active lifestyle but also enjoyed snuggles on the sofa after a long day. She would really like to engage in some basic training as she’s a very intelligent dog and picks up new things quickly. Hounds also have a tendency to get bored quickly if their mental enrichment is overlooked, so it’s important her new family can give her equal amounts of brain games and physical activity to keep her stimulated and happy. Mia hasn’t shown any destructive behaviours but when bored any dog will seek out their own fun, especially a clever one!

Mia has been great with other dogs since arriving in the shelter but does not depend on them, and could be adopted into a household where she is the only resident dog. She could also live with children but is very bouncy and cheeky, so would be better around kids that are familiar with living with dogs. She does get very excited and enthusiastic in the presence of people, but it’s very manageable behaviour and will calm down once she has routine and outlets for her energy levels, which sadly she doesn’t have in the shelter. She would make an excellent family friend and has so much potential as a companion.

Mia is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
