About Elmo

Elmo was brought in by the dog warden after he was found roaming without a collar or microchip. Surprisingly, Elmo has actually already been neutered which indicates he has had a home at some point. Usually a dog like Elmo would have people come looking for him, but sadly no one has responded to local ads advertising him as found or called the shelter. We’re therefore looking for a new home for him.

Elmo has adapted well to shelter life, despite it likely being a far cry from what he’s previously used to. He shares his kennel run with five other dogs, both males and females, and gets on well with them. He definitely doesn’t depend on the company of other dogs to be happy, so he would be fine in a home where he’s the only dog. He gets on particularly well with the calmer females in his group so if he did live with another resident dog that would probably be the best kind of match alongside his temperament.

Elmo is only estimated to be about a year old so he’s just a youngster. He is very good with people and shows a lot of promise when it comes to training - he does a beautiful sit for a treat, which is pretty impressive in a multi-dog pen at a busy shelter! He responds really well to positive reinforcement and you can see he tries really hard to be a good boy and impress you. He is also very affectionate and silly, with a goofy and bubbly personality. He’s sociable and people oriented, and would thrive with a family to call his own.

As he’s only a young dog, Elmo would benefit from some continued training but we really feel that once he’s formed a trusting bond with his adopters that everything will fall into place slowly but surely for him. He would be a lovely family dog and we think he would love being around children based on his behaviour and temperament so far. He could adapt to most environments, but would particularly like at least a small garden to potter about in and release a little energy.

Elmo is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
