About Riley

Through no fault of his own, Riley is seeking a new home. Riley is a German Shepherd mix puppy and arrived in the UK on June 30th to his new family but sadly, they don’t feel they’re able to provide Riley with the time he needs during the day due to their working hours. He is currently living in Chorley, Lancashire, and we’re looking for a new home as soon as possible.

Riley is a beautiful dog with an energetic and intelligent nature, typical of a Shepherd. He is very loving and loyal towards people, friendly with other dogs, and highly trainable. He is always keen to make new friends whether that’s with humans or other dogs, and is very sociable and playful. When meeting new people he will get very excited and vocalise and jump up playfully, but means no harm at all.

When out on a walk Riley does pull on the lead a bit but they have been working on training to minimise this, which has had some positive results already. He has also been doing some recall training which is going well, but he can be easily distracted by the presence of other dogs who he wants to play with. He has also had four sessions with a trainer where he has mastered sit, lie, paw, middle, wait and down. Considering Riley has only really been in the UK just over two months, imagine his potential with further attention to his training and socialisation!

Riley is housetrained and sleeps in his crate. He doesn’t like the crate so much when the door is closed, but it has become a useful tool to encourage him to get enough rest during the day, which is really important for puppies. Riley has interacted with children within the family and we would be comfortable with him living with kids aged 7+ based on his exposure. He has not been around cats and will bark at them from a distance, so we would prefer a home without resident felines, but he could live with other dogs.

Riley is looking for a home with someone who is around more during the day as at present he’s not getting the attention and interaction he needs, especially at such a young age. He needs a family who are not out for long hours during the day, who have a fairly active lifestyle, and who are committed to training. Shepherds have loads of potential to learn and love using their brains, so he needs someone who understands this.

Riley has settled in so well over the past two months and would make a fantastic companion in the right home. He is fit and healthy (but not neutered yet as he’s too young), and is ready to meet any prospective adopters as soon as possible. Please email eve@theunderdog.org for more information.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
