About Rosco

Rosco was brought into the shelter after being found as a stray during the peak of the hunting season. A stunning German Pointer type, he’s the kind of dog the local hunters go wild for, but of course, he wasn’t chipped, so who could possibly know who or where he came from. We’re now searching for a new beginning for Rosco where he can be smothered in the love he so desperately wants.

Rosco is a large dog. He’s lanky, gangly, and clumsy. He doesn’t understand the meaning of the word ‘graceful’, nor has he heard of ‘personal space’. Rosco believes that being as close to humans as possible is the best thing ever, and regardless of what his past treatment may have been, this boy is nothing but love. He is so resilient and forgiving, and he longs to be with people. He hates being caged in the shelter and cries when he sees someone come by, hoping that they might come and give him a fuss.

If you’ve ever owned a big dog before, you’ll probably already know that nine times out of ten they are just big babies. Rosco is no exception. He will sometimes just melt onto the floor for no reason other than he’s decided he’s excited and he needs a belly rub - he particularly likes doing this outside in the grass! And when he’s really comfortable with you he loves to do the ‘big lean’ and puts all his weight onto you for the ultimate cuddle. He is such a soft boy with a gentle soul, a kind heart and a very squishable face. A very typical pointer in many ways.

Because Rosco is young, energetic and large, he needs a confident adopter who is used to handling big dogs and is comfortable doing so. Rosco is highly trainable, but it will take some time and effort. He can be bouncy, especially around food, so might not be great for homes with young children who will get easily overwhelmed. He is however much better on the lead than we first expected, so there’s plenty of promise there as long as his training is kept on top of, which he will enjoy as he’s super keen to please. We have found him to be really responsive and eager to learn. He engages well, even if he doesn’t quite understand what is expected of him and you can tell he’s keen to please.

Rosco gets on well with other dogs but as he can get excitable he would need to be matched with another resident dog based on energy levels. He means well, he’s just not completely in control of all of his limbs yet! He loves being outdoors and being a hound, his nose is often completely pressed to the floor taking in everything around him, so he would love nothing more than a semi-rural home with plenty of surrounding nature to explore. Rosco would also benefit from a home with a garden, and he needs an active lifestyle, continued training, and most importantly, tonnes of cuddles. That’s a must!

Rosco is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.
