About Xenia

Xenia was rescued from the confines of a public shelter in Bosnia after being plucked from the streets by one of the local dog catchers. The public shelters are horrendous environments for dogs to end up in, and many of them die there without the intervention from other rescue organisations. Xenia was one of the fortunate ones.

Xenia is a beautiful dog who’s been in the kennels now for around six months. Since she arrived she has been no trouble at all and has settled into the environment and routine nicely. She has a very balanced character and she is brilliant with both people and with other dogs. Xenia was lucky enough to be chosen by a couple who went hiking and wanted to take a shelter dog with them for a few day trips, and she behaved so well. She walked on and off the lead really well, came back when called, and was polite and respectful around other dogs she met.

Xenia is a very patient, gentle and clever girl. At around 20kg, she’s a medium sized dog and is likely a mix of Bosnian shepherd breeds. She’s therefore very comfortable outdoors, quietly confident, and whilst she’s happy to be independent at times she is also very loving towards people and loves being in their company. At the moment, Xenia shares a kennel with over a dozen other dogs and has no issues with any of them. She’s not hugely playful with other dogs, but she enjoys being in their company. She doesn’t however rely on them for confidence and she would be fine in a home as the only resident dog. She is definitely more interested in humans.

Xenia has learned that the car means adventures, and she jumps in and out by herself now. She was uncomfortable at first, but after several trips outside the kennels she began to make positive associations. Based on her breed type and disposition, we think Xenia would be happiest in a home based more semi-rurally, with nature trails and long walks surrounding her. The city wouldn’t be as enjoyable for her, and she loves the opportunity to go on a lovely long walk.

Xenia is friendly and gentle around cats. She doesn’t try to chase or instigate play, and would be fine living with a cat who was comfortable with dogs. She is also good with children and whilst she’s not really the type of dog who will chase after a ball or play with toys, she is very affectionate and enjoys running. She’s also happy to just chill out and be near you.

Xenia would love a moderately active home with an outdoorsy family who are keen to have a dog join them on their adventures. She’s not hugely demanding in her exercise requirements as such, but she has plenty of stamina and loves being outside, exploring. She would prefer a home with access to a secure garden, and could adapt happily to either a larger family, or someone living on their own. As long as she has humans to build a loving bond with, she’ll be happy.

Xenia is currently based in Bosnia and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
