Darcy’s story

So, we are a family of four: Laura, Chris and our two boys Oliver and Noah. We have wanted a dog for as long as I can remember but we worked manic jobs and very long hours, so never felt it was fair to bring a dog into our home when we couldn’t dedicate our time fully. 

We then moved house (right in the middle of the pandemic) and Chris was established as a self employed photographer so could work at home a lot more than before. This meant I began trawling dog shelter sites looking for our furry family member! A family member had recently adopted a dog from abroad using a different charity and we’re thrilled with their experience… which meant I began researching charities that did the same thing.

Then along came Underdog International :) we initially got in touch with Eve about adopting Penny, Darcy’s sister, but after a conversation about our lifestyles and the type of family we were, Eve thought Darcy would be a better fit, she couldn’t have been more right!

The process of applying was so simple and we were updated along the way by Eve regarding flight times etc, we only had to wait about five weeks to meet and take home Darcy!

The hard work began as soon as our adoption was approved, we began reading up about adopting a dog, training styles, what we would need, applying to a veterinary surgery, organising insurance etc etc. We didn’t realise how much work we would need to put in before Darcy even arrived but in doing so, the arrival and settling in period was so much easier.

After about four weeks we Darcy had settled into our family wonderfully, we had forgotten what life was like without her, we were smitten! We had a follow up call with Holly and she was happy with how Darcy was going, so no more check ins were necessary, however both Holly and Eve have always been available when we have had a query!

Now over a year down the line, Darcy is now the queen of the house! She’s such a lovely natured pooch we couldn’t wish for anything more, she has completed our family and filled our home with even more love!
