Hercules’ story

I submitted an Underdog adoption form mid-March 2021, after Hercules’ adoption information was shared in a chihuahua group I’m a member of. After thorough checks and a video call my application was accepted. Hercules came to live with me mid spring, just six weeks after initial contact with Underdog international, all the way from Cyprus! Brave little chihuahua! 

I was thrilled for him to become a part of my small furry family, with a cat Charlie, and tiny chihuahua, Lord Arnold. Despite being very stressed and distraught, after his long and I’m sure also very exhausting trip, I managed to lure him out of his crate pretty quickly, with lots of soft and encouraging talk and yummy treats, of course! Our first cuddle was so heartwarming!

Since then our bond just became stronger. Our journey together wasn’t without hiccups - Hercules needed a lot of encouragement and reassurance (he was very shy and suppressed), and some training, especially when it came to food. I can only wonder that this was his only positive interaction/relation in his early days and became a bit of an obsession as well. He’s still very food motivated, but I have this behaviour under control and he’s listening to my commands. Hercules is still a bit shy, and unsure of males, but has definitely come out of his shell and became more confident, playful, loving and a very obedient! He surprises me every day by showing more of his goofy and loving personality. It’s just so rewarding to see him happy and living his best life along my other two pets! Adopting Hercules was the best decision!
