Rosie’s story
In early 2019 I left home in Yorkshire to take up a job offer in London, unfortunately this meant leaving behind my three family dogs. Having grown up with rescue dogs from the day I was born I knew adjusting to life without a furry friend by my side would be difficult. I spent all my free time (and I honestly mean all my free time) looking at dogs available for adoption online. Fast forward 1 year to June 2020 I came across Underdog International and of course, went straight to the Dogs Available for Adoption page - that’s where I found Rosie. I fell in love with Rosie the minute I saw her photo and read her online profile; she was perfect for me! Within minutes I had text my partner and let him know I had applied to adopt a dog and ended the sentence with ‘I doubt we’ll be successful, but it’s worth a try’ - within four weeks of that day Rosie was snuggled up on our sofa chewing holes in every pair of socks we own.
Despite everything going on in the world at the time Eve responded to my application for Rosie within a matter of days. I reserved Rosie that same day and arranged a home check with Sian. Both Eve and Sian were so helpful and reassuring throughout the entire process and around a week following the home check I received an email letting me know we had been successful in our application to adopt Rosie – I cried for about 3 days and ordered an unnecessary amount of toys for her (turns out she isn’t bothered about toys, only smelly old socks)
Rosie was described to us as a ‘Golden Girl’ and Eve was not wrong! We found out Rosie had already travelled to the UK as she had a forever home lined up which fell through last minute – we couldn’t believe our luck! We travelled to Rosie’s lovely foster home where we met her for the first time. At this point, we are Rosie’s fourth (and final!) home. She was originally surrendered by previous owner in Cyprus who was no longer able to care for her, she then moved to a foster home in Cyprus before travelling to London to join her new foster family. Rosie was wary of us at first, but as soon as she learnt we were there to give her all the cuddles and treats she deserves, she soon warmed to us.
Rosie has been with us for two months now and can hardly believe how loving and trusting she is of us in such short amount of time. She loves nothing more than napping on the sofa and rolling onto her back for a tummy rub about 100 times a day. My favourite part about having Rosie in our home is seeing her run into the bedroom each morning to give us a good morning lick before heading out on our walk. Rosie is a slightly older dog at 6 years old, but that didn’t bother us, I’ve always had a soft spot for the oldies (sorry Rosie) but that doesn’t stop her doing anything, she can walk for miles! She comes absolutely everywhere with us and is the definition of a sidekick. I honestly couldn’t imagine life without her, adopting Rosie was the best decision we have ever made, and now I’m looking for a bigger flat so I can adopt another…. Oops. Thanks for everything Underdog, we’ll be back!
