About Cookie
Cookie is a lovely smaller sized spaniel mix who suddenly found himself without a home after his owner sadly passed away. With no family members able to take him in, Cookie was taken to the municipal pound and his entire life changed overnight. It was a bewildering and stressful time for a dog who had known the comfort of a home, and understandably, the transition was difficult.
Fortunately a space became available with one of our shelter partners at the start of April, and Cookie has been settling in since. When he first arrived, he was anxious and unsure, pacing in his kennel and reluctant to eat. Over the last few weeks, he’s started to find his feet again but it's clear he’s still missing the familiarity and routine of a home environment.
Cookie is a charming, bright eyed boy with the energy and spirit you’d expect from a spaniel mix. He’s active, playful, and loves to be involved in whatever is going on around him. He’s also affectionate and quick to bond with people, especially when a few treats are involved. Cookie has already shown how responsive he is to training, having picked up basic cues with ease, and his love of food will make further learning an enjoyable experience for both him and his adopter.
Having previously lived indoors, Cookie is housetrained and understands home life. While he’ll still need a little time to adjust, we expect his integration to be smoother than dogs who are starting from scratch. He would suit a home where someone is around most of the day, as he thrives on company and enjoys being involved in daily life.
Cookie would love a home slightly outside the city, ideally with a garden where he can potter, play, and enjoy some time in the sun. He could live with another friendly dog, or equally be happy as the only dog in the home if he has enough human interaction and stimulation. We think he would be happy in a home with kids aged 8+, but would also thrive in an adult only home. While he can be a little bouncy at times, it comes from a place of joy and enthusiasm, and we expect this will settle as he continues to find security and routine again.
Cookie is a warm, loving, social butterfly of a dog with a playful streak and a heart full of affection. With the right home and a little time to settle, he’ll make a truly devoted and delightful companion.
