About Freya

This beauty is Freya. She was abandoned in a village and was skin and bone when she was rescued. She has since been cared for by a local boarding kennels. Sadly they didn’t have the network to rehome Freya, so we have partnered with them to try and change that and find Freya the forever home she deserves. She’s waited for almost three years for a new start.

Estimated to be around 4-5 years old, Freya is on the smaller side of medium and is a hound mix. She is a lovely girl with a very gentle demeanour, and she is slightly reserved and shy around new people that she’s unfamiliar with. Thanks to Ira, her kennel mate, Freya’s confidence has improved during her time in the kennels and in a home with a calm, patient family, she will be just fine.

Freya is great with other dogs and has a generally submissive nature with them. She mixes well in groups and she enjoys canine company. Because she’s a little more reserved, she can end up blending into the background more than she would like when they’re playing outside, but she gets along with everyone well. She could live with or without a resident dog. A resident pup might help her settle in a bit faster, but as long as her family move at her pace and give her plenty of reassurance, she will adapt.

Freya would be best suited to a semi-rural environment with a family who have a calm and peaceful home atmosphere. A busy household with lots of comings and goings might be a bit too overwhelming for Freya right now, as would a home with young children. Although there’s not a single bad bone in Freya’s body, she’d prefer a home with kids aged 10+ who are more calm and predictable.

Freya absolutely loves treats and that’s the fastest way to win her trust! She takes them from you very gently and waits patiently for her turn. She also, true to her scent hound nature, loves sniffing about in the grass and scatter feeding/scentwork games. Exercising natural instincts helps to calm a nervous dog, so a home with a garden where Freya can do activities like this would be perfect for her! She’d love it.

She might be a little bit shy to start with,, but winning Freya’s trust and becoming her friend will be so worth it. She is very affectionate and sweet natured once she’s formed a bond with you, and it will be lovely to see her finally relax in a home - something we’re unsure if she’s ever had before! It’s her time to find happiness - could it be with you?

Freya is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
