About Javier

Javier is a gentle, expressive young dog who has had a challenging start to life but shown nothing but resilience. When Javier was found as a stray he was taken to a local shelter where it was discovered he had a broken leg that had healed incorrectly.

After undergoing corrective surgery and a period of careful recovery, Javier has now made a full recovery and you’d hardly know he suffered such an injury. He’s now enjoying an active life in a foster home, with only two small scars on his leg which serve as a reminder of his remarkable recovery.

Javier is a beautiful, sensitive and very observant dog. With other dogs, he is friendly and well-mannered. He shows excellent social awareness and reads body language really well. He lives alongside another dog in his foster home, and has even assisted a dog trainer in socialising puppies, demonstrating his calm and friendly nature. He is particularly tolerant with other dogs, even when they’re a little too boisterous or over-confident.

With people, Javier is shy at first and needs a little time to feel safe with strangers. Once he’s had a bit of time to build trust he is very affectionate, gentle and friendly. He can be a little sensitive so responds best to gentle, positive reinforcement, and as he’s very intelligent (and also loves to learn) it doesn’t take him too long to pick up new things!

In his foster home Javier has learned to walk beautifully on a long lead, wait, sit, and follow commands such as “this way.” He knows how to ask to go outside if he needs the toilet, and he’s well behaved at the vets too. Being a hound, he loves scent work and brain games as enrichment, especially snuffle mats and make-shift food puzzles (super easy to do at home!). He’s also been lucky enough to enjoy a range of different treats such as beef trachea and rabbit ears, which he loves, and also fruit and veggies! He’s a healthy boy.

Javier would do best in a calm, secure home with access to outdoor space and plenty of opportunity for enrichment and movement. A semi-rural or rural home would suit him perfectly, especially with nearby access to open fields or quiet walking areas. He surprisingly loves the rain (good news if he ends up in the UK!), enjoys travelling in the car, and truly thrives in nature.

Javier would be a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys outdoor adventures. He could live with another dog, ideally one with a friendly and balanced temperament, and could live with children aged 8+, although may be slightly hesitant at first. Anyone would be lucky to welcome such a gentle, loyal and charming young dog into their lives and given a little patience, Javier will blossom in a forever home.
