About Grape
Grape was noticed on the streets by a lady who was feeding the local cat colony. It took a while, but eventually Grape was caught and brought to the shelter. When she first arrived, she was extremely shy. She was very shut down and withdrawn, and it took her a while to start trusting anybody. Unfortunately this is often the outcome for dogs that have been neglected and abused in the name of hunting season, and we think Grape could well have endured that kind of treatment.
Eventually, Grape started to relax. She was paired with a kennel friend who helped her see that not everyone was scary, and when she finally started going out on walks it was like she was a completely different dog. Unfortunately she is still overwhelmed by the shelter setting and does find it very difficult to relax, but seeing her outside of the shelter demonstrates how much potential she truly has in a proper home. She is genuinely unrecognisable.
Grape is an adult dog, estimated to be around four years of age. We can assume that she’s not experienced the most kindness in her life and we’re therefore looking for a patient and understanding home with someone who can work on her confidence and integrate her into a conventional companion dog lifestyle at her own pace. Rushing Grape will do nothing but overwhelm her, but we have a feeling that her own home will make the world of difference to her and she’ll finally become the dog we see outside of the shelter.
Grape is great with other pups and she’s looking for a home with another resident dog who’s very friendly and can help her settle into a brand new environment. Having another dog will help boost her confidence and navigate a whole host of new things that she’s never experienced before. She is also looking for a home with direct access to a secure garden, based semi-rurally where it’s not too built up or busy.
Grape hasn’t properly been tested with cats, but based on where she was found we think with confident cats she would be fine. It’s worth noting that once her nerves dissipate, she might be far more bold around cats, but that’s obviously not something we will know until it happens. Due to her nervous nature we’re looking for a home with older children only who can give her space (10+).
Adopting a dog who’s had a tough life can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding. The most notable thing about Grape is the difference in her between the inside and outside of the shelter, so we think she will flourish away from her current environment, in a home where she feels secure, settled and cared for. Based on her breed mix, we’re looking for a fairly active home who enjoy being outdoors and recognise the physical requirements of a spaniel type. In the right home we think Grape will absolutely blossom and we’re so looking forward to seeing her get that chance.
Grape is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
