About Tokyo
Tokyo and Roxy were abandoned on the streets in 2021 as young puppies. They were dumped in the city in an area renowned for having a brutal approach to dealing with roaming strays by using poison as a form of ‘pest control’. Luckily the pups had already formed a trusting bond with a local rescuer who was able to get them into a shelter before things go out of hand, but sadly the girls have been looking for homes ever since without any luck.
Tokyo is a gorgeous dog with a very sweet disposition. She is great with both humans, and because she has spent so long in the shelter she is very comfortable around other dogs. She plays with everyone and anyone who’s down for a bit of fun and has never had any issues with other shelter residents despite having met so many in her time there. She is polite, sensitive and intuitive, and would be a great companion for another resident dog. It would actually benefit Tokyo to have the company of another dog in her new home as it’s all she’s ever known, and she does show some signs of nervousness in new and unfamiliar situations. Another dog would provide a safety blanket and improve her confidence.
Tokyo wouldn’t be alive now if she’d remained on the streets as a puppy, but because she’s been in the shelter so long her world has always been small and there’s a lot of things we take for granted with our dogs that she won’t yet be aware of, such as going for daily walks, sleeping in a comfortable bed, toys, the sound of the television. Adopting Tokyo will be such a rewarding experience but without question she needs a family who can provide her with time, patience and understanding. She is a very good natured dog and has loads of potential as a companion, but her integration needs to be gentle as she has a lot to learn.
Tokyo is very clean in the shelter and shows strong signs of already being housetrained. She is super smart and with some proper training we think she’s capable of picking up new things really quickly, and she’s done so well with getting used to the lead over the past few months. Tokyo is also really friendly with children and in the time she’s been cared for in Bosnia she’s been around kids consistently, so we feel reassured that in a home with sensible and respectful young children she would be a great addition.
Tokyo’s ideal home would be based more semi-rurally, where there’s less chance of her becoming overwhelmed. She needs a home with direct access to a secure garden as she’s always had easy outdoor access and maintaining this really helps our Bosnian dogs adapt to a companion lifestyle. She would struggle in a busy urban centre, and it would be preferable based on her sheltered past that Tokyo’s new family have some previous rescue dog experience so they understand the time and patience required. Tokyo is so loving, loyal and would honestly make an amazing family friend in the right home. She’s waited so long for this chance and we would love for it to finally be her time!
Tokyo is currently based in Bosnia and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to travel once she finds her forever home.
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
