About Lukas

Lukas is a super special boy we’re so excited to introduce you to. This sweetheart came into the shelter after a passer-by found him unsteady and disoriented, staggering about all alone. A vet check and MRI scan revealed neurological damage, most likely caused by either head trauma or a stroke. Since then, Lukas has been receiving treatment to reduce swelling, and we’re already seeing some encouraging signs of improvement!

While his coordination remains affected, Lukas doesn’t let it stop him at all! He’s wobbly on his feet, and sometimes loses his balance, but his attitude never falters. If he takes a tumble, he simply picks himself up and carries on, tail wagging and determined to keep going. He’s always got something to do - sniffing about, greeting someone new, or joining in with whatever is happening around him. He’s a dog who never wants to be left out and he’s not about to sit back and let the fun go on without him!

Lukas has quickly become a favourite at the shelter, but don’t tell the others. He has a naturally sweet, cheerful temperament and absolutely adores people. In fact, his shelter name is Glikas, which means sweetness in Greek, and there’s no doubt about why he earned that name! He loves a cuddle, enjoys sitting close for a fuss, and gives his full attention when there’s a snack involved. He has a beautiful ‘sit’ for a biscuit, and the way he gazes up at you proudly when he’s nailed the command is just so endearing. He’s the kind of dog who’s everyone’s friend, and his determination to be involved despite his challenges only makes him more special.

Lukas shares space happily with other dogs, especially calm, steady dogs who match his pace and vibe. He’s also very tolerant with puppies, though if the energy gets a bit too much, he’ll quietly take himself off for a break. Lukas is no trouble with cats and travels well in the car, making him an easy going companion in many everyday situations.

He would do best in a calm, predictable home away from busy roads and the noise of the city. A garden would be ideal, giving him a place where he can potter about in the sun or just enjoy being outside at his own pace. Lukas loves his walks and his time outdoors, and it’s clear that being included in the routine of everyday life means the world to him. He definitely wouldn’t want to be left at home and miss out.

Lukas could live with older children who are calm and respectful of his space. While he’s incredibly friendly and affectionate, his coordination means he isn’t always able to respond quickly to sudden movements, so a more settled household will suit him best.

We can’t say exactly how his condition will progress long term, but Lukas is currently happy, pain-free and doing impressively well. What matters most is that he doesn’t miss out on the chance to be part of a loving home. His resilience, charm, and determination to stay connected with the world around him make him a truly special Underdog.

Lukas is ready for his next chapter. Could that be with you?
