About Percy
Percy is one of our newest shelter pups. A coat of gold, and a heart of gold, we love this boy. Found as a stray by the local dog warden, Percy arrived at the shelter in February, very shy and unsure of his surroundings. At first, he kept to himself, watching the world quietly from the sidelines. But as the weeks have passed, Percy has slowly come out of his shell, and we’ve loved watching his personality begin to shine through.
Percy is still really just a puppy, estimated to be less than a year old, and is thought to be a mix of Beagle and Labrador. He has the most gorgeous velvety soft fur and adorable little back rolls - it is literally impossible to not want to cuddle him. Luckily for us, Percy is big on snuggles and loves a fuss!
Percy’s affectionate nature is one of his most endearing qualities. He adores human company and will happily soak up attention whenever it’s offered. Whether it’s a belly rub, a scratch behind the ears, or simply sitting at your feet, Percy is content just being close to people. He’s gentle and calm, always approaching with a soft expression and a wagging tail, quietly asking for affection. When he gets a little over-excited though you can see the puppy in him start to emerge and he gets really wiggly!
At the shelter, Percy is currently sharing a kennel with a lively group of confident dogs. Although he’s sometimes nudged out of the way by them, he takes it all in his stride. He’s patient and avoids any confrontation, and seems to be very intuitive with canine body language, always reading the room and stepping back if things get too rowdy. All Percy wants is to get along with everyone.
Percy is very eager to please, and has quickly learned the ‘sit’ command in the busy shelter environment, which is a pretty impressive! Thanks to his love of treats and positive reinforcement, we think continued training will come quite easily to him as long as his new family give him some time and focus.
In a new environment, Percy will need a little more confidence building, but he trusts and bonds with people quickly so in a proper home setting we think he will really shine. He would be happiest in a home outside the city where he can enjoy a peaceful environment with a little garden to explore at his own pace. Percy loves spending time outdoors, and nothing makes him happier than romping through long grass or pottering around in the sunshine.
Whether joining a family with children or living as the only dog, Percy’s adaptable and gentle nature will make him a great little companion. He has so much to offer, including the world’s silkiest ears.
