About Phaedra
Our gorgeous girl Phaedra is very sadly seeking a new home. Phaedra arrived in the UK in March of 2023 after being found as a stray on the streets of Cyprus. She has spent the last year in a lovely home in York, but unfortunately her family feel that she would be better suited to a different type of environment. Phaedra is now in a foster home in Bristol where she's patiently waiting for her second chance.
Phaedra is a very beautiful Shepherd mix and is around three years of age. She is generally a very calm, chilled out dog who doesn’t ask for much and enjoys being in the company of her favourite humans. She loves spending time outside in the garden and being a Cyprus dog at heart, she is an avid sunbather. Between walks, Phaedra is quite content just lounging around at home, with the occasional burst of energy when she wants to play, but is quite happy entertaining herself with her toys and doesn’t demand attention.
Phaedra’s foster describes has as ‘good as gold’ and has commended her ability to self soothe and spend time on her own whilst she’s working upstairs, but we recognise that she would be more than happy to have company during the day too. However, she can be left alone for periods of time, which is great. She’s also very keen to learn, very eager to please and super food motivated which will prove a handy tool for any further training.
Phaedra loves being outside and has been great with other dogs. She’s made local friends since she went into a foster home in Bristol, and she loves hanging out with other dogs. She walks nicely on the lead and has decent recall, but does have a prey drive. In secure areas and once she’s built up a strong bond with her handler, off-lead exercise will be really enjoyable for her. And it will help with her weight loss - at the moment Phaedra is a little on the porky side so she’s on a diet!
Among the commands Phaedra has learned are sit, wait, touch, close (walking to heel), and come. She is also crate trained and house trained. We’re yet to find a treat that she doesn’t like, nor is she a fussy eater and loves treats like cheese, bread, apples, sweetcorn, and also blueberries, although she likes to play with them first!
Phaedra is much more relaxed in a calm household without young children, and has settled into her foster home really nicely. She would welcome an adult only family, or a home with teenage children, as she likes their predictability and finds them less overwhelming than younger children. She has lived without other resident dogs since her arrival in the UK, and would be fine without them, but could be considered for a home with another canine companion if they had characters that complemented one another. As mentioned, she’s great with dogs outside of the house. She has also spent a period of time in kennels during a holiday and the staff commented on how good she was during her time there.
Ideally, Phaedra is looking for a home outside of the city with a relaxed home atmosphere. She would like a home with a garden, and with a family with some prior knowledge of dog ownership and who are confident with a bigger breed. Phaedra is an exceptionally good girl with a big heart, and her charming personality comes out gradually the more you get to know her. She really deserves another chance to settle into a more calmer home, and we really hope that someone can give this girl what she needs.
Phaedra is currently based in Bristol and has a clean bill of health. She is ready to meet her new family as soon as possible!
Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
