About Radar

Radar was rescued just before Christmas. He was wandering aimlessly in the fields and the dog warden was able to catch him before bringing him to the municipal shelter. He’s quite unusual looking for a Cyprus dog but he’s incredibly beautiful and has just as lovely a temperament.

Radar was very shy when he first came into the shelter. He would slink about at the back of his kennel and avoid eye contact with anyone for a few weeks before eventually he started to find his feet. Now we know that really, Radar is just a teddy bear, and he needed a moment to settle in. We’ve seen quite a change in him over the past few weeks and we’re confident he’s now ready to find his forever home.

Radar is around the size of a German Shepherd and has a beautiful coat that will need some upkeep to ensure he doesn’t get matts and knots. Thankfully he’s quite happy to be groomed and untangled, and just lies on the floor enjoying all the fuss. He has a sweet, soft nature and when he knows and trusts you, he very gently melts into your arms and demands endless cuddles. He is very affectionate, and will sit at your feet staring up at you waiting for a fuss if you’re in his kennel with him.

We don’t think that Radar has ever had a proper home before, but we think he has experienced some kindness from humans. He doesn’t take too long to warm to new people, and he’s learning to walk nicely on the lead too with the volunteers every weekend. It’s possible that Radar was a farm dog, or lived outside, which is very common in Cyprus, but living inside a typical household might be very new to Radar and he will therefore need a gentle, patient approach while he adjusts to things in his own time. He would be best suited to a semi-rural home with direct access to a garden, and somewhere that is in close proximity of plenty of green spaces, nice walks, and away from busy roads and crowds.

Radar has not been around cats to our knowledge, but he could live with children aged 8+. He is generally a very gentle dog, but would probably find very young children to be quite overwhelming. He would be better suited to a calmer indoor household with a moderately active lifestyle, and he can live alongside other dogs, but is quite happy chilling on his own. There’s no doubt that once settled, Radar will make a gorgeous companion dog and we’ll be very envious of those who get to call him theirs!

Radar is currently based in Cyprus and has a clean bill of health. He is ready to travel once he finds his forever home.

Please note, any mention of breed is nothing more than an educated guess based on what we know about the dog, their appearance, behaviour, and common breeds in their country of origin. We can never guarantee breed specifics, nor can we confirm the exact age of our dogs, unless they were born in our care. Age estimations are made by our vets based on the development of the dog, their general health and energy, and assessing their teeth.
